About Fred

I’ve been a student of the game of golf for over 40 years and have been providing golf lessons in Toledo for over 10 years.”

I admit it – I am a golfaholic, as well as a teaching professional. I have enjoyed playing the grand game of golf for over 40 years. In addition to playing, I find teaching golf very rewarding – I love to see students when they finally hit that great shot, make the long put, chip in or kill that long drive.

Fred Altvater

Fred Altvater

I am a certified USGTF Level III Golf Instructor, and a freelance golf writer. Here’s my article, published on Golf Digest, about Michigan High School Golf that was inspired by my Grandson’s experience on the golf team in Cadillac, MI in the spring of 2018. I also publish and am a contributing writer for a monthly golf magazine, Ohio Golf Journal. I host a radio show called the Back 9 Report and am a frequent guest on other radio shows, including Spin on Golf on WJR.

I also have a Roku TV channel where I cover hot topics in golf as well as travel, tips and other items of interest to golfers. You can also watch the episodes on Vimeo.

Bernhard Langer

One of the aspects of my profession that I really enjoy is covering the Toledo and Ohio area pro golf events for my publication.  Here’s a photo I took of defending Champion, Bernhard Langer, holding his 2010 U. S. Senior Open trophy.  This photo was taken when he visited Inverness in Toledo, Ohio in May 2011 to help promote the 2011 U. S. Senior Open.

My wife and I enjoy traveling and exploring the beautiful surroundings of well kept golf courses as well as introducing our grandchildren to the grand game (among other things)!  We reside in Toledo, Ohio with a second home in Cadillac, Michigan.
