Tiger Woods Regains Old Form at Trump Doral

Tiger Woods played a nearly perfect round on Friday to take a two-shot lead after 36 holes in the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump Doral.

He has won 16 World Golf Championship events and he won this event in 2007.

Woods is leading at 13-under par and appears to be confident with every part of his game. He didn’t just hit fairways with his driver he split the middle. His long iron play was spot on. From 150 yards to the green he consistently gave himself birdie looks and he rolled in every putt from close range.

Through two rounds Woods is 14 for 14 from 10 feet on the Bermuda greens at Trump Doral.

Woods has made 17 birdies over the first 36 holes at Doral. That is the first time in his illustrious career that he has made that many birdies in two rounds.

Woods is very confident right now. He is striding the fairways with renewed confidence, his body language is all positive and you can see the fire in his eyes. He is no longer worrying about positions in the golf swing. He sees the shot and executes it.

With some help from fellow tour player Steve Stricker, he seems to have regained his putting stroke and was very solid on the greens.

The leaderboard at the WGC-Cadillac is a who’s who in golf. Graeme McDowell, who has not made a bogey over the first 36 holes, is two shots back. Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker trail Woods by three shots. Bubba Watson and Freddie Jacobson are four back. Former major champions, Charl Schwartzel and Keegan Bradley are within five shots.

The notoriously difficult winds that normally buffet Doral have been fairly benign over the first two rounds. The weather is reported to be calm and perfect again for Saturday’s third round but the winds are expected to return for the final round on Sunday.

Woods played solid through three rounds last week at the Honda Championship but struggled in strong winds on Sunday.

The way that Woods is playing right now he wishes that the Masters started next week.
